A new Tesco Express is set to open in High Wycombe’s Eden Shopping Centre.

The new supermarket will be at 18 to 20 Newlands Meadow to the rear of 19 Denmark Street and be spread across units 24 and 25 at block ‘M3’ of the shopping centre.

The premises is currently occupied by Buzz Gym on the first-floor level, with the gym’s entrance located on the ground floor.

The rest of the ground floor level at 18 to 20 Newlands Meadow remains vacant and it is proposed to be occupied by Tesco Express.

In the last week, planning officers at Buckinghamshire Council have approved new signage for the shopfront.

Plans show a ‘Tesco Express’ sign alongside blue hoarding, which reads: “The Eden Centre Est. 2024.”

The sign at unit 24 will be internally illuminated and measure 6m by 1m while at unit 25, the non-illuminated sign will be roughly 3m by 1m.

No objections to the plans were received and the council said: “The design, appearance and scale of the display of signages are appropriate to the proposed use and the local context within the Eden Shopping Centre.”

The plans for the new Tesco Express come as the retailer’s existing superstore at Eden is set to downsize into just the ground floor of the building it leases from the council.

The move is so the upper floors can be released to the council to accommodate new offices and the county archives, which are currently housed in Aylesbury.
