A plan to install 150 solar panels and a battery facility in a field in Gerrards Cross has been put forward.

Applicant Mrs Lue-Fong wants to set up the new renewable energy equipment on land to the rear of Prestwick Place, St Huberts Lane.

The panels would sit on a metal frame system and be accompanied by a shed housing a battery back-up system and a control panel.

The field to the north of Prestwick Place is currently pasture with mature oak trees to the east and west, while to the south are the gardens of Prestwick Place, a private home.

Plans state: “This application seeks to continue the sustainable objectives of the ongoing works to the Prestwick Place, that saw the replacement of the old oil-fired boiler with a heat pump, by installing an array of photovoltaic panels.”

The new solar panel system has been designed to enable Prestwick Place to be energy self-sufficient, off grid, for over three quarters of the year.

Panels are planned mainly in the north of the field to maximise the direct sunlight and avoid shading by the trees along the eastern boundary.

The storage shed for the batteries is located on the eastern boundary in a gap between the trees.

Plans state: “The structure will be located on screw piles to avoid damage to any tree routes and have minimal impact on the existing ground.”

This will have ‘minimal impact’ on the existing meadow and is easily removable, the application says.
