An epic new production performed by Wycombe Swan Summer Youth Project will be hitting the stage this month.
The much anticipated Wizard of Oz will be performed this year at the popular theatre from Thursday August 22 to Saturday August 24 2024 at 7.30pm, and at 2.30pm.
A spokesperson for the production company said "We’re off to see the wizard! The beloved tale of a Kansas farm girl who travels over the rainbow to discover the magical power of home has entertained audiences for generations."
Young Dorothy Gale is swept away by a tornado from her Kansas farm to the magical land of Oz. She encounters a host of whimsical characters; good witches, bad witches, animals that talk, scarecrows that walk, and magical things to behold.
To find her way home, she must journey along the Yellow Brick Road to see the mysterious and all-powerful Wizard in Emerald City.
She makes friends along the way but must also brave dangers, including the Wicked Witch of the West who will stop at nothing to get her hands on Dorothy’s magical ruby slippers.
To make it home safely, Dorothy must learn an important lesson: there’s no place like home.
The Wycombe Swan Summer Youth Project began in 1993. It was started as a way to provide local young people with the unparalleled experience of working in a professional theatre alongside top creative teams to produce a full-scale musical.
Over the two-week project, the Wycombe Swan comes alive to the sights and sounds of more than 100 young people doing everything they can to put on a full-scale musical in time for curtain up!
Participants have the option of taking to the stage as a Performer, or to make magic happen as part of the Technical Team.
All performances take place on our main stage in the 1,000 seated Wycombe Swan Theatre. Numerous participants have gone on to have successful careers both on and off stage.
The Wycombe Swan’s Creative Learning department is part of the Trafalgar Entertainment Trust (Registered Charity No. 1145989).
Their mission is to provide bespoke and unique learning experiences to, for, and with communities. They provide inspiring experiences through creative learning to develop life skill such as building confidence, resilience, and improving overall wellbeing.
They strive to educate and empower the next generation of performers, creators, and arts enthusiasts through putting on productions such as this one.
