An Aylesbury takeaway has been ordered to pay £12,000 after dumping rubbish by bins in the town centre.

Trade waste from Aylesbury Grill House was found left in Kingsbury Square on several occasions in early summer 2023.

Bucks Council warned the fast-food outlet over its failure to correctly dispose of rubbish before further waste from the business was found dumped.

Waste enforcement officers then carried out follow-up investigations in July 2023 using evidence found by examining the contents of bags of waste and CCTV footage.

Company director, Haris Gul, was interviewed by investigators and a case was prepared for prosecution, with seven charges brought against the takeaway.

District Judge Sharma heard the prosecution at Wycombe Magistrates’ Court on July 24, 2024, and accepted that the restaurant’s actions were ‘deliberate’ and had ‘caused a significant eyesore and hygiene hazards’.

Aylesbury Grill House Ltd was found guilty of the illegal dumping of commercial waste in the town centre. It was fined £6,000 and ordered to pay clean-up and investigation costs to the council of £3,862.74, as well as a victim surcharge.

The council said the bins where the waste was piled in sacks were for ‘members of the public to dispose of small amounts of personal litter only’.

Thomas Broom, the council’s cabinet member for climate change and environment said: “We abhor fly-tipping in the countryside, but this scandalous dumping of commercial waste in Aylesbury town centre over a protracted period is just as bad.”

Aylesbury Grill House has been approached for comment.
