With just weeks to go until JD Wetherspoon takes Marlow by storm, developers have revealed more of what future customers can expect from the budget boozer’s arrival Thames-side.

The Grand Assembly will open its doors at 3 Market Square in September, complete with newly decked-out interiors, a rear back garden and suitably striking furnishings.

It will also be impossible to miss, despite being next to the equally imposing Everyman Cinema at the top of the High Street, if signage proposals are approved – and could help to reassure naysayers lamenting the arrival of a multinational corporation by recruiting a local artist to hand-paint its finer details.

Plans for the new sign were submitted for Buckinghamshire Council’s consideration on July 18 and show a plated gold hanging sign with the pub’s name above a painted image of people gathered around a central figure holding an object – presumably a cup – in the air.

If all goes as intended, the sign will be made up of a series of layers – material to be confirmed – and painted by a local artist.

Mock-up images of The Grand Assembly’s interior also show plans for a notice board immediately inside the venue advertising all-day breakfast services, unlimited free wi-fi and “world-class” drinks.

Earlier this month, developers unveiled plans for the back-facing beer garden, which will house a timber pergola with a brick wall and railings facing onto Riley Street.

After opening in the autumn, the pub will operate between the hours of 7am and midnight from Sunday to Thursday and 7am to 1am on Fridays and Saturdays. Stay tuned for more news as we get it!
