Here is the official mugshot of former Wycombe Wanderers winger Nathan Ashton after he was convicted of rape.

The disgraced footballer, 37, was handed a 16-year jail term on July 16 after he was found guilty of two counts of the crime.

The first sex attack occurred in 2015, and the latter in 2023.

The mugshot was issued to the public not long after his sentencing, with this being the third serious conviction of Ashton’s life.

In August 2015, he was handed a three-month suspended sentence after pleading guilty to stalking his ex-girlfriend.

Eleven months later in July 2016, he was jailed for 15 years after he planned and carried out a spate of armed robberies at numerous betting shops across High Wycombe and Watford.

He took part in the spree where he was armed with a gun, alongside former professional footballer, Ohmar Pike.

The reason for his crimes was to settle debts of around £100,000 after he developed a gambling addiction during his playing days.

What did Ashton do?

During a six-week trial in the spring of this year, Reading Crown Court heard how Ashton was described as ‘vile’ and manipulative’ for the way he carried out his sex crimes, something which he always denied.

In 2015, Ashton picked a woman up in Reading and drove her out into the countryside.

There, he demanded that she go into the back seat where he raped her.

He then told the woman after the attack: “You’ll live.”

While the victim did not report the incident to police for five years, she went to a sexual health clinic a day after the rape, where she divulged what had happened.

The second rape took place in the early hours of February 19, 2023 after Ashton and the woman attended a bar in Shoreditch with friends.

The woman and her two friends left the bar and were offered a lift home by the former footballer.

She reported to officers that he had been touching her inappropriately throughout the night, leaving her feeling guarded and vulnerable as a result.

Once they arrived at an address Romford, Ashton decided to stay with the three women.

They all decided to go to bed and fell asleep in different rooms, after which he entered the victim’s room and raped her.

Detective Sergeant Ben Wallen who led the investigation, said: “Our officers were meticulous in their investigation against Ashton and secured a great outcome as a result.

“The victim survivor is extremely brave reporting this to the police and we encourage all victims to come forward and speak with our specialist officers to help remove these prolific offenders off our streets.

“We remain dedicated in providing support to rape victims and protecting women and girls from predatory offenders, and I would encourage anyone who has been a victim to go to the police.”

He spent the 2008/09 season at Wycombe, playing just 13 times.
