A second Banksy-style piece of street art has appeared in Marlow – as speculation over their authenticity mounts.
What appears to be a replica of pseudonymous street artist Banksy’s famous Girl with a Balloon mural has appeared on Station Rise just weeks after a schoolboy holding a red briefcase was painted opposite Sir William Borlase’s Grammar School on July 4.
Neither piece has been confirmed as the work of the elusive artist and political activist, but Marlow Town Council leader Chris Funnell thinks the speculation alone is a boon to the town’s renown both locally and further afield.
Mr Funnell said the new additions to Marlow’s streets have “sparked curiosity, debate and a sense of pride” among residents.

Suggesting that Banksy could have been drawn to the area because of its “charm”, he added: “Regardless of the motivation behind these pieces, their impact is undeniable – it’s a conversation starter and a reminder that art can find its way into even the most unexpected places.
“Most intriguing is whether these are genuine Banksy pieces or an homage by a talented admirer. Whatever the reality, I am proud that our town is enjoying a moment in the spotlight. A lot of hard work goes into keeping Marlow as beautiful as it is and this is a refreshing gift to all of our team and the entire town population.”
