A new digital phone box with a defibrillator is set to be installed on a High Wycombe high street.

The new JCDecaux unit will be located outside the Chaiiwala Indian street food café at 30 White Hart Street.

The phone box will provide free ultrafast Wi- Fi, free phone calls to landlines and charities, wayfinding, device charging and rapid connection to emergency services.

Users will also be able to access a wide range of local information such as live transport updates, the latest news and weather forecasts.

The defibrillator housed in the unit features voice and visual instructions to guide people using the device through the process.

In a statement, JCDecaux said: “The rise in mobile phone use has corresponded with the decline in the use of the traditional public payphone.

“The role of the public phone box also needs to adapt to modern life and the needs of the public to stay connected when out-of-home.”

The plans for High Wycombe’s new communications hub were recently approved by Buckinghamshire Council.

The unit, which will run on an Android operating system, will stand 2.6m tall and feature an 86 inch screen on one side and a 32 inch touchscreen on the other.
