Wetherspoon is planning to alter the beer garden of its Marlow pub ahead of an opening date in just a few weeks' time.

Construction work on the former M&Co store at 3 Market Square got underway back in May, with scaffolding and a ‘Wetherspoon’ banner going up at the site alongside a peek at the interiors of the soon-to-be Grand Assembly.

The popular chain has confirmed the new pub will open in September 2024.

And, as the countdown begins for the latest addition to Marlow’s diverse hospitality scene, JD Wetherspoon has submitted plans to alter some minor structural elements – offering mocked-up visuals of what customers can expect from its controversial arrival in the area.

The plans include a change in the design of a pergola in the pub’s beer garden as well as to the garden’s boundary wall and alterations to the front signage, with trees on the site maintained and incorporated into the new structure.

It means locals can expect to christen the boozer on a terrace facing out onto Riley Road at the back of the building, which – if all goes well – will be home to a timber pergola bordered by a brick wall, with railings along its rear.

The amendments are reportedly stylistic choices based on the “design preferences” of the pub chain.

Upon opening, The Grand Assembly is expected to operate between the hours of 7am and midnight from Sunday to Thursday and 7am to 1am on Fridays and Saturdays.

Keep your eyes peeled for more updates as we get them!
