A man from High Wycombe spotted a broken-down train packed with impatient travellers from his window yesterday afternoon.

Chiltern Railways apologised to customers for service delays between High Wycombe and Gerrards Cross on Sunday, July 21, after “a broken-down train blocked the line towards London” at 11:29am.

The railway company confirmed that the line between Princes Risborough and West Ruislip had reopened at 2pm, with services between Bucks and London returning to normal half an hour later.

Tony Warner, who lives on Gordon Road in Wycombe, snapped several photos of the stationary train from his window at 1:30pm yesterday.

He said passengers travelling to Marylebone Station had, at that point, been stuck inside with the doors closed for around two hours.

The breakdown came just one day after people were told “not to travel” on the Chiltern Railways route to London after a “total loss of signalling” between South Ruislip and High Wycombe.

Lines were closed on Saturday morning (July 20) while maintenance workers addressed the issue.

To make matters worse, delays also abounded over the weekend due to further signalling issues between Wycombe and Beaconsfield.

A spokesperson for the company said they were “very sorry for the inconvenience caused”.
