A group of veterinary professionals which includes one from Chesham will trek across the Sahara Desert for charity.
Katie Gray, along with her partner, will head to North Africa in November to walk around 100km in the space of six days.
The adventure is in aid of StreetVet – a cause that provides free veterinary care to the pets of people experiencing homelessness, all over the country.
She said: “We provide veterinary care on the street and in pet-friendly hostels (StreetVet also has a hostel scheme, training and giving support to hostels to ensure they can allow people to stay with their pets in their accommodation).
“Victims of the UK homelessness epidemic often have scant support, except for, in a growing number of cases, the companionship of their pets.
“Many have had their pets since before losing their homes, which makes their bond even more profound, such that their pet's well-being is a life-shaping priority.
“Our volunteer vets and vet nurses provide accessible fundamental veterinary care.
“We vaccinate, microchip, treat for fleas and worms, prescribe pain relief, help fight infections, perform surgeries and sometimes just sit and listen.”
A goal of £2,000 has been set and at the time of writing, £820 has been donated.
