A 38-year-old has been convicted of attempted murder in High Wycombe.
Darren Robertson, of no fixed abode, was found guilty by a unanimous jury verdict of one count of the crime on Thursday, July 11 following a seven-day trial at Aylesbury Crown Court.
This is in relation to an incident that occurred at around 1.10am on Sunday, February 18 when a woman in her 40s was hit with a brick at the Melbourne Recreation Ground.
She suffered life-changing injuries which required surgery.
Robertson was arrested on the same day and was charged 24 hours later.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Ross Acland said: “Darren Robertson launched a sustained and unprovoked attack on the victim, leaving her with significant head injuries. He then left the victim in the park without making any effort to seek any assistance for her.
“The victim was found in a life-threatening condition and it is believed that she may have died of her injuries had she not been found.
“I am glad that the jury has found Robertson guilty, and shows that we will bring offenders to justice.”
Robertson was remanded in custody and will be sentenced at Aylesbury Crown Court on Friday, September 6.
