A much-loved lollipop man who spent decades making sure parents and children cross the road safely has died.
Gilbert ‘Gilly’ Fryer, who was situated both Carrington Infant and Junior Schools, passed away aged 95 on Sunday, June 16.
He was known across the area and only retired from his role in the year that he turned 92.
A statement published on Facebook by the Carrington Schools PTA page reads: “He was a significant part of the Carrington Community and is fondly remembered by children, parents and all the staff at both Carrington Schools.
“Gilly had made arrangements and asked that donations are made to the Carrington Schools in lieu of flowers.”
A statement on his condolence page added: “Gilly was one of life’s true gentlemen.
“He dedicated his life and love to others and never failed to put a smile on people’s faces.
“Our family are asking for donations to Carrington School instead of flowers.
“Carrington, and all the staff, parents and pupils held a special place in Grandad’s heart.”
A celebration of Gilly’s life will take place on Wednesday, July 3 at the GreenAcres Chiltern in Jordans.
Those connected to the 95-year-old are encouraged to attend, with the event starting at 1pm.
