Arriva will shut down its High Wycombe and Aylesbury bus depots in just a few weeks – axing 14 local services.

The bus firm announced the closure news back in May, describing it as a “difficult decision” that came after both sites were found to be making losses.

Arriva said there would be “no immediate impact” on services until July at the earliest.

A spokesperson for the company said today (June 25) that the two Buckinghamshire depots would permanently close on Saturday, July 27.

They added: "We're grateful for the professionalism and continued dedication of our colleagues during an extremely challenging period.

"We appreciate that our customers will be concerned about what happens next. Arriva will be withdrawing (all services except the X5 from Hemel Hempstead) after July 27. Services will be running as usual until then."

Retired postman Robert Salt, 64, previously told the Local Democracy Reporting Service that the closures were “a tragedy”, especially for “older folk and those further out of town”.

Competing local bus service Carousel reacted to the closure plans by saying it was “ready to step in” and run additional routes in the area.
