Buckinghamshire Council has urged residents to 'keep safe' after the Met Office issued a heat health alert for the country ahead of a 30C heatwave this week.
A yellow heat health alert was issued by the Met Office and the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) at 8am this morning, Monday, June 24, to remain in place until 5pm on Thursday, June 27.
Parts of Buckinghamshire are expected to reach nearly 30C midweek, with Marlow and High Wycombe set for temperatures of 28C and 27C respectively on Tuesday.
While many may be celebrating the spell of warm weather after seemingly endless rain, Bucks Council has issued a warning to residents who might put their health at risk while making the most of the sunshine.
A spokesperson for the unitary authority said: “As temperatures continue to rise, please keep yourself and others safe by staying hydrated, wearing sunscreen and a hat when going outside and avoiding going outside between 11am and 3pm when the sun is at its peak strength.”
The UKHSA has also warned of an “increase in mortality amongst vulnerable individuals and increased potential for indoor environments to become very warm” over the next three or four days.
Don't assume that summer's here to stay just yet, though - the Met Office is predicting a slight breakdown in the warm weather on Thursday (June 27), with clouds and outbreaks of rain forecast for parts of the country.
Local predictions also show a drop back down to an average temperature of 21C on Friday and Saturday.
