A fundraising event is set to take place today (23/6) to raise awareness of the dangers of open waters following the tragic drowning of a 13-year-old boy from Buckinghamshire.

To mark the tenth anniversary of his death, the family of Kyrece Francis has organised the event which will take place from 12pm to 6pm at Wades Park in Princes Risborough.

The family fun day will include a host of stalls alongside music, food, raffles and entertainment.

Kyrece Francis – a promising footballer from Buckinghamshire – was pulled out of the River Thames by police on July 22, 2014 after getting into trouble in the water.

He was believed to have died after getting into difficulty in the fast-flowing water in Marlow whilst trying to retrieve a ball.

A crowdfunder has been set up in memory of Kyrece where the family has invited everyone to attend the free event happening today (23/6).

They said: “We'd truly appreciate some support in order to bring awareness to open waters so other families will not have to experience what we went through.”
