An 82-year-old Wycombe Wanderers fan was given the VIP treatment during a special tour of the club by two ex-players.

Kenneth Pairmain, who lives at Catherine Court care home in High Wycombe, has a love of football that goes all the way back to kickarounds with friends and being signed for a junior team in Hayes when he was a youngster.

The 82-year-old has also been a long-term Wycombe Wanderers supporter and, in his later years, cherished the idea of revisiting his former stomping ground and reliving some of the excitement of his youth.

Thanks to Catherine Court's Wishing Tree initiative, which encourages residents to reconnect with a past passion or indulge a new interest at the home's expense, Kenneth's dream became a reality earlier this month, with an all-access stadium tour alongside his friend and fellow retiree David Tiller.

The two men were shown around the Adams Park pitch, trophy room and an exclusive suite by ex-players Vince Faulkner and Keith Samuel in a treasured trip down memory lane for Kenneth, who said the last time he'd visited the trophy room, he'd "held up a trophy after winning a cup final".

Corina Andreescu, Home Manager at Catherine Court, said both Kenneth and David had a "fantastic" time visiting the stadium and "haven't stopped talking about it since".

She added: "Kenneth is always sharing fond memories of his time playing football in his younger days, so it was fantastic to see him fulfil his wish of visiting the football grounds.

"Our Wishing Tree initiative is a wonderful way for residents to share their passions and ambitions and it's hugely rewarding to be able to make these a reality.

"I'd like to extend a big thank you to the team at Adams Park Stadium for making everyone so welcome, as well as to the team at Catherine Court for making Kenneth's dream come true!"

Catherine Court is a modern two-storey retirement complex on Cressex Road that caters to retirees and those in need of nursing and dementia care in later life. Its facilities include a hair and beauty salon, a library, a 'namaste room', an onside garden and a minibus for group outings, as well as close access to nearby shops.
