A FAST-FOOD takeaway scored a one-star food hygiene rating after inspectors visited the shop.

Roosters Peri Peri, a High Wycombe eatery, has been slammed with the second lowest hygiene rating, with officials calling for "major improvement".

The restaurant on Oxford Street scored only 1 in its recent inspection on May 8, 2024.

The examination uncovered that the hygienic handling of food at the establishment needed "some improvement".

This review can factor in aspects such as preparation, cooking, reheating, cooling, and storage of the supplies.

Meanwhile, the cleanliness and condition of the building and facilities, considering elements like layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities, and pest control, were graded as "generally satisfactory".

Food safety officers maintained that their confidence in the establishment was in dire need of "major improvement".

Their judgement might have considered checks in place to ensure that the food sold or served is safe, and that the staff are knowledgeable about food safety.

To put this in perspective, only 0.5% of food businesses in the area have a hygiene rating as low as 1.

The majority, 68.0%, proudly display a rating of 5, implying they've met the highest standard of hygiene.

Food hygiene ratings, which range from 0 to 5, serve a crucial role in ensuring the safety and quality of food establishments in the United Kingdom.

They help consumers to make informed decisions when choosing where to eat, prioritising venues that adhere to strict hygiene criteria.
