Twenty-one men and women from Buckinghamshire have been recognised for their ‘exceptional’ community contributions in King Charles III’s Birthday Honours list.
Pop singer Rebecca Ferguson, who beat One Direction to second place on The X Factor in 2010, led the Bucks residents becoming Members of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the King’s Birthday Honours for her services to the music industry.
Local businessman Michael Garvey was also named on the honours list, alongside Dr Samina Khan, director of undergraduate admissions and outreach at the University of Oxford, for her services to higher education.
Professor Michael McCartney Izza became a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) alongside the MP for Milton Keynes South Ian Stewart, who received a nod for his political and public service.
Meanwhile, Dr David Rollinson, scientific associate at the Natural History Museum was given the title of Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE), as did civil servants Raymond Barnaby Tang and Brian Williams.
Eight locals were also named Medallists of the Order of the British Empire (BEM), including Ley Hill resident Margaret Anne Faulkner and Marlow-based James Stacey.
His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire, The Countess Howe, said: “I am thrilled for the Buckinghamshire residents recognised with an award in the 2024 Birthday Honours and feel immensely proud to be able to congratulate so many remarkable individuals who live in the county.
“These honours celebrate the exceptional contributions of our residents through myriad areas of expertise, reflecting the rich diversity and talent in the county. Their contribution has significantly enriched our county and our country. I applaud them all and thank them for their admirable commitment and dedication.”
