The ‘biggest sporting and social event’ in Marlow’s calendar will have a downsized schedule this year following unusually wet spring weather.

The Marlow Town Regatta and Festival will bring its annual dose of local cheer to Higginson Park on Saturday, June 15 and Sunday, June 16, complete with traditional rowing, live music and outdoor dining.

The Saturday sporting programme for this year's popular event will be slightly different from its predecessors, however, following a cold and drizzly spring and a gloomy weather forecast hanging over the weekend.

A spokesperson for the Regatta said flooding to the boat staging area and participants' field had left both heavily waterlogged, limiting Saturday's rowing activities.

The reduced schedule will be limited to a number of invitation races from the Marlow Rowing Club and the traditional competition between Great Marlow School and Sir William Borlase.

Organisers previously cancelled the Marlow Spring Regatta, scheduled for April, because a trailer field was entirely underwater.

Visitors will still be able to enjoy first-class views of the Thames from the Jim Campbell Riverside Enclosure and live afternoon and evening music and a food court in the Upper Enclosure on both days of the weekend.

And, although less-than-ideal weather is on the cards for Sunday, its packed schedule is going full steam ahead, with ticketholders invited to grab drinks from the Round Table bar and explore a classic car show, dragon boat exhibits, fun fair rides and more.
