A man who was stopped by police with cannabis in his system has been banned from the road for a year.

Samuel Bateman, 31, of Chestnut Close, Amersham, appeared before High Wycombe Magistrates' Court on May 20.

He pleaded guilty to drug-driving and driving without insurance.

Both charges were in connection with an incident on November 20 last year.

Bateman was stopped by police in Dobbins Lane, Wendover.

He submitted to a blood test, which found unlawful levels of a cannabis by-product in his system.

Magistrates banned Bateman from driving for 12 months.

In addition, he must pay £85 in court costs and a £48 victim surcharge.

Police are able to screen drivers at the roadside for traces of cocaine and cannabis.

If it is detected in illegal quantities, drivers could face a one-year driving ban, an unlimited fine, or up to six months' imprisonment.
