The family of Colin Love, a late keen golfer at the Harleyford Estate on Henley Road, have paid tribute to his charity work in a fundraising event held on May 30 to celebrate two of the passions that characterised his life.

James Love, Colin’s son, organised the charity event and raised over £11,000 for Helen and Douglas House by charging attendees for a round of golf, breakfast, a two-course BBQ, sporting competitions, a raffle and more.

Colin, who lived in Marlow for 35 years  before sadly passing away last September, was a trustee of the children’s hospice and got his only hole-in-one on the Harleyford course a decade ago – making it a bittersweet and meaningful celebration of his life for his wife Karen, James and his sister Abbie.

Karen described her husband as a "kind and funny" man who had been "selfless" right to the end, telling his family not to worry about regular visits even as he was hospitalised with sepsis for months before he passed.

"That time, when he was so incapacitated, must have been so hard for him, but he never complained and just accepted the care he was given with grace and gratitude.

"We all miss his kindness, his soft heart and his humour - we just really miss everything about him and can't quite believe he has gone."

Karen said organising the event was “a labour of love” for her son that compelled 56 golfers and 40 non-players to donate to charity and share their memories of a treasured friend and avid sportsman.

She described the total of £11,100 raised for Helen and Douglas House as an “incredible” achievement that would have made Colin proud.

Adding: "His legacy will live on through James and Abbie and the Colin Love Foundation, which they have set up to continue fundraising in his name."
