A fish and chip shop owner has revealed ‘things have got a lot better’ following a ‘difficult start’ to when they launched their business four years ago.

Halil 'Harry' Olgar, 45, officially opened Cozy Fish and Chips in Hazlemere in February 2020 due to a demand to have a chippy in the village.

However, just 30 or so day later, he was forced to close his business due to Covid-19 pandemic.

They were able to reopen after lockdown restrictions were lifted that summer, before once again closing in November.

With the country in limbo over the Christmas period, they reopened for a third time in December, before a third lockdown began in January 2021.

It wasn’t until the summer of that year when things began to look bright for Mr Olgar, who also owns the award-winning Holmer Green Kebab and Zem Kebab, with the latter being in Hazlemere.

He told the Free Pres: “I opened the business because I knew there was a a huge demand for it.

“In this area, this is a parade so there are many people who live by and go to the shops, so it made sense to have one here.

“When we opened Zem Kebab in 2019, people from this area would call for takeaways, but they would wait a long time to get their food.

“That’s why I wanted to give people Cozy Fish and Chips as it gives the customers here their food quicker and hotter.

“Things were hard at the start, but they have got a lot better in that time.

“For example, we had lots of children come in from the Scouts and it was great to see them all happy with their parents enjoying the food.

“That’s why we’re here.

“We want to give everyone good service.”

The business is the third that the Turkish national has opened in South Buckinghamshire since moving to the area 25 years ago.

He has gained huge success with his first business, Holmer Green Kebab, which was named as one of the best kebab shops in the UK earlier this year.

In addition to that, his second shop, Zem, opened five years ago, and also won an award.

When asked about the differences between all his businesses, he said: “There’s not much difference but it’s mainly fish and chips.

“I’ve been here for 25 years so I know what works and I’m happy.

“Please come and try us and see.

“The food is served in front of the customers and they can see what we are going.”
