Buckinghamshire New University is to overhaul a building on its High Wycombe campus in a big refurbishment after planning permission has been granted.

Planning officers approved the institution’s proposed removal of existing external windows, doors and shutters and the installation of new double-glazed windows, doors and shutters.

As part of the plans, the existing roof covering, associated waterproofing, insulation, outlets, hoppers and downpipes will all be removed and replaced.

Some 20 rooflights will also be removed as part of the overhaul of a building at the heart of the Queen Alexandra Road campus.

A single new triple glazed rooflight will be installed, according to planning documents submitted to Buckinghamshire Council.

Plans state: “Safety, security and wellbeing of students, staff and visitors to the university is absolutely paramount and will not be compromised by the works.

“The university will remain in operation for the duration of the works. The works will be carefully planned to ensure that the education of the university students is in no way compromised throughout the development.

“Buckinghamshire New University and their building consultant, DHP (UK) LLP are all committed to work together to ensure that the development is completed successfully.”

During construction, the site will be completely segregated from the operational areas of the university via a 2m high fence, according to the applicant.

Founded in 1891, the university offers over 300 courses and installed Repair Shop star Jay Blades as its inaugural chancellor last year.
