FLACKWELL Heath resident and Bucks Free Press' very own nostalgia writer has been awarded the Mayor's Medal.
Mike Dewey, the past chairman of the Flackwell Local History Group, has been honoured at an engaging reception, benefitting from a citation penned by John Gurney and Steve Cohen, a previous BFP editor.
The presentation took place at High Wycombe Town Hall, immediately after the Mayor-weighing at the Guildhall, drawing in an appreciative audience of about 150 attendees.
The citation recounting Mike's contributions were delivered by Lesley Clark, an experienced Wycombe District Councillor.
Displaying sheer dedication towards his local community, Mike indulged in immense amounts of research on local history, focusing particularly on World War I and II events for the Flackwell Local History Group.
He remains an active volunteer at the Flackwell library and has persistently lent his assistance to the Wycombe library including making charitable donations.
Mike's contributions extend to conducting numerous history presentations for local groups and communities.
A fervent supporter of Wycombe Wanderers and Manchester United, Mike's attachments are not just confined to historical pursuits.
Aside from his responsibilities as chairman, Mike has willingly volunteered his time to the BFP Nostalgia page, which was originally the Goodearl Days before being renamed the Dewey Eyed Years under his guidance.
Mike provided enhanced images on requests for SWOP and authored two book collections of SWOP pictures titled 'Bucks In Time.'
His interest in radio found him engaging in a regular programming slot on Wycombe Sound Radio.
To add to his long list of contributions, Mike has stood by SWOP as a long-lasting supporter, especially when the Wycombe Government/Council decided not to continue with the initiative.
Upon receiving his honour, Mike said: "I was very surprised to be notified by the Town Clerk that I was to be awarded this honour and am very grateful to the people who nominated me in the first place, and to the Charter Trustees for approving it.
"There are many other people who are equally, if not more, deserving to be recognised in this way, and I hope they will be in the future."
This fitting tribute to Mike was met with commendation from all present and applauds his earnest endeavours in High Wycombe.
