A popular diner that served breakfast, lunch and dinner to residents in and around Great Missenden for three decades is reopening after five years of closure.

Deep Mill Diner on London Road between Great Missenden and Amersham was bought and named by its former owners in 1990, replacing the Royal Oak pub with an all-day restaurant catering especially to passing travellers on the A413.

However, after nearly 30 years of building a loyal customer base in the area, its owners retired in July 2019 and, not helped by the imminent COVID-19 pandemic, the site has sat empty ever since.

That is, until now. While on his daily commute to work yesterday (May 28), Harry Seager, who lives in Aylesbury and was an occasional customer at the diner, spotted a new sign in the window of the long-vacated building.

In bold black and red lettering, it read: "Deep Mill Diner, opening soon under new management", alongside a promise of "British, Mediterranean and Lebanese cuisine".

Harry said: "I only visited a few times, but I drive past it every day and I have done for years.

"One of my fondest memories was that they had a really ornate wooden cake stand which sat by the front door - it was a varnished wood colour and looked great but was replaced by a more modern one after it broke.

"They were open from early morning to evening and served breakfast, lunch and dinner. Then it shut in 2019 when the owners retired and sold up."

Harry said he thought COVID had likely put the brakes on new owners acquiring and renovating the site, adding that he was glad someone had taken it on and that it would no longer sit empty.

Stay tuned for more news about the reopening as we get it!
