A woman has been fined after stealing meat and cleaning products from a Waitrose branch in Amersham.

Lucy Elliston, 37, of The Bramblings, Amersham, stole £56 of items from the store on March 27 this year.

She appeared before High Wycombe Magistrates' Court in connection with the offence on May 1.

There, she pleaded guilty on one count of theft.

Magistrates handed her a £200 fine - almost four times the value of the meat and cleaning products stolen.

Justifying this, magistrates found that the defendant had a poor record of engaging with probation services.

This meant that a community order would be inappropriate in Elliston's case.

The defendant was also ordered to pay an £80 victim surcharge.
