Arriva's proposed closure of their bus services across Buckinghamshire areas could drastically affect local pubs and nightlife.

The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) warns the reduction in public transport options, particularly at off-peak times, may prevent access for many punters to their favourite watering holes.

CAMRA chairman Mike Clarke believes pub users are inclined to use bus services, often in the evenings and during the weekends.

A large proportion of these locals reside in areas such as Downley, Loudwater, Haddenham, and even further afield.

In particular, the two still-operational pubs in Haddenham, Rising Sun and King's Head, may experience a decrease in patronage as visitors from Aylesbury and the vicinity would lose a convenient mode of travel.

Another significant example is the Rebellion Brewery in Marlow Bottom, currently served by the 800/850 route.

Many of their loyal visitors, especially retirees, rely on the bus services to enjoy a pint or two.

Yet, with Arriva's axing its bus routes, this would no longer be an option.

Mike said: "This is going to have a huge impact on many other people's day to day lives (e.g. schoolchildren, elderly people with bus passes, many
 commuters).

"A less immediately visible but still profound consequence will be to cut off a socially responsible way for people to travel to pubs.

"For example, the local CAMRA branch has an online guide to using the X9/130 bus route to visit local pubs along the route.

"It will set back the recovery of some pubs from recent economic pressures and it may tempt some irresponsible drinkers onto the roads."

Pubs that could be affected are ones accessible from the X9, X90 or 130 bus routes. 

These are:

Rose & Crown, High Wycombe, which is only a few steps from High Wycombe bus station.

Spindle & Thread  is a short walk from the 300 route.

The Wheel is at the Naphill Village Hall bus stop.

Le De Spencer is around a ten-minute walk on public footpaths through the woods to the south of Naphill.

The Black Lion is at the end of Woodlands Avenue (which looks like a cul-de-sac on a housing estate) near the Naphill, Holly End stop.

The Black Horse is at the Lacey Green Millennium Hall bus stop.

The Whip is at the The Whip PH stop, Lacey Green. 

The Pink & Lily is a twenty-minute walk along Pink Road from the Whip Inn.

The Bird in Hand is a five-minute walk down Poppy Road from the Poppy Road stop, Princes Risborough and The Bell is at the Bell Street, Princes Risborough stop.

The George and Dragon is right next to the Market Square bus stop, as well as The Whiteleaf Cross.

The Red Lion is a five-to-ten-minute walk uphill on The Holloway from the Monks Risborough, the Holloway stop. 

Whilst The Stable Bar at the Three Crowns is a five-minute walk along Askett Lane from the Askett Roundabout stop.
