More tributes have been left for a ‘much-loved’ High Wycombe man who died suddenly at the start of this month.
Edward ‘Eddie’ McDonald passed away in the afternoon of Sunday, May 5 just hours after waking up from a long sleep at the Old Tea Warehouse along Amersham Hill.
He stayed at the accommodation due to being homeless.
His passing has caused a huge shock in the town, with many referring to the 57-year-old as ‘the man who sat outside Iceland’.
Following his death, a GoFundMe page has been launched to raise much-needed funds to cover his funeral costs, whilst the Three Tuns pub, which is opposite the supermarket, is also getting in donations on behalf of Mr McDonald.
Tributes have been flooding in for the Chelsea FC fan, with numerous flowers, photos and football shirts of his favourite team being left and his regular sitting spot.
Now, nearly two weeks after his death, comments have been left on the pavement from members of the public who either knew or regularly spoke to the ‘old school gentleman’.
One message read, ‘forever in our hearts’, whilst another said, ‘RIP The Oracle’ which was one of his many nicknames across the town.
Another said, ‘you were so kind and sweet,’ whilst this comment stated, ‘sleep well bruv, fly high. We’ll miss you.’
In addition to all the heartfelt comments, many flowers have been left at the makeshift shrine, which was put together by Mr McDonald’s former partner, Allison Rondel.
It’s expected that more tributes will be left along that section of the High Street.
Ms Rondel told the Free Press: “Everyone who knew him, loved him.
“He was loved, and he didn’t know it.
“He didn’t know how much he was appreciated in the town.”
Thames Valley Police have confirmed they are treating Mr McDonald’s death as ‘non-suspicious’ but ‘unexplained’, whilst an inquest date has yet to be confirmed.
A formal celebration of life to remember the very popular character will take place at the Three Tuns pub in High Wycombe on Sunday, May 26 between 3pm and 5pm, where a balloon release will also occur.
A plastic cover has also been put over the memorial following the recent wet weather that has impacted the town.
