Thames Valley Police has said it is ‘aware’ of Chesham car fraudsters who target innocent families by registering vehicles at their addresses.

It comes after residents of Chilton Road spoke of their ‘stress’ at having fines, debt collection letters and legal warnings shoved through their letterboxes – all because crooks were using their addresses.

Thames Valley Police has acknowledged the issue and said it was supporting victims of the fraudulent activities.

A spokesperson for the force told the Bucks Free Press: “We are aware of the issue of unregistered cars being parked, we believe by traders, on residential streets in Chesham and surrounding areas.

“Our neighbourhood policing team in Chesham has been working to support residents with these issues.

“We have worked with our partners the DVLA and have carried out a number of operations with them in the year, to support the DVLA and to seize, clamp and fine any untaxed and unregistered vehicles, which are of great frustration to those residents.”

The force told residents who believe a car has been registered to their address to contact the DVLA and that fraud can be reported to Action Fraud.

Peter Martin of Buckinghamshire Council said the authority can remove abandoned vehicles but that this takes time.

The deputy cabinet member for transport said: “While we sympathise with residents’ frustrations, we are limited in the actions we can take in such situations.”

Untaxed vehicles should be reported to the DVLA and breaches of parking restrictions should be reported via Fix My Street – www.buckinghamshire.gov.uk/fix-my-street.

The DVLA has been approached for comment.
