The Pizza Hut restaurant on Ryemead Way in High Wycombe has reopened a week after a car dramatically crashed into the side of it.

The car crashed into the restaurant, at the entrance of Wycombe Retail Park, at around 3:40pm on Tuesday, May 8.

Police, fire and ambulance services were called to the road, where they temporarily cut off access before reopening it around an hour later.

A man who eyewitnesses described as “elderly” was helped out of the vehicle and was left in the care of Thames Valley Police.

Speaking last week, a member of staff at Pizza Hut said the crash had negatively impacted business, and shortly after the incident, the restaurant was closed while a police investigation continued.

However, joint managers of the High Wycombe branch Kam and Russ confirmed today (May 15) that the popular chain is now back open to customers.

A spokesperson for the restaurant previously said: “We would like to send our best wishes to the driver for a speedy recovery.

“We are assessing the building damage and working with the landlord to reopen as quickly as possible and can confirm that no team members or guests were injured in the incident.”

Some eyewitnesses speculated that the driver had suffered a “seizure or stroke” while driving but Thames Valley Police has not confirmed these reports.
