A village in Berkshire will be holding a ‘party in the park’ to celebrate the 80th anniversary of D-Day landings which eventually led to the end of the Second World War.

The Parish Council in Sunninghill holds bi-annual celebrations at its Victory Field Recreation Ground.

This year, a free event will be held to commemorate the D-Day landings in Normandy, where British and Allied Forces pushed back the German military occupying  France.

Visitors will be able to enjoy fairground rides, live music, fish and chips and more at the event.

Maryann Morgan, the administrative assistant at the parish council, said: “We have had similar events Jubilee party in the park in 2022, so we had quite a big event then, with music and food.

“For the Jubilee, we had a bonfire, in line with the others being lit across the country.

“We have a party in the park every two years. This time and in 2022 they coincide with big events.

“In the intervening years, we have street fairs, along Sunninghill High Street, which are also quite popular events with local residents.”

She added there will also be a beacon lighting at this year’s event to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day on Thursday, June 6.

In preparation for the event, Victory Field Recreation Group has applied to host live music, sell alcohol, and provide late night food and refreshment from 4pm to 10.30pm.

The group has applied for these activities in a licensing application to the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead.

A public consultation on the application is being held until Thursday, May 23.
