A decision will be made on the future of a proposed Aldi store in Amersham in just a few weeks.
Budget supermarket chain Aldi first announced plans to open a branch at the former Jaguar dealership on London Road West three years ago.
However, a planning application to demolish the dealership and build a new store in its place has been scuppered by environmental concerns, especially due to the site’s proximity to the River Misbourne and its consequent flood risk.
Letters have now been distributed to residents in Amersham stating that a council planning committee will meet to decide whether the store will be built or not at the Council Chamber in High Wycombe on Tuesday, April 2.
Speaking to the Free Press in January, Peter Strachan, Buckinghamshire Council's Cabinet Member for Planning and Environment, said he hoped the application would be referred for a planning committee decision "in the early half of this year", subject to "additional information" being provided by Aldi.

The Environment Agency, which previously objected to the proposal due to flooding concerns, retracted its comments on February 29, instead offering conditional approval to the application.
The Lead Local Flood Authority also stated that it had “no objection” to the store in a document submitted to the planning portal on January 17.
Residents have been near-unanimous in their support for a local discount supermarket, with one person saying a “cheap and local” store would prevent others from travelling further afield for their weekly shops.
