A local council will close a road in Buckinghamshire for over seven hours while work takes place on a ‘much loved’ 300-year-old tree.
A 300-year-old heritage tree in Pound Lane, Marlow, was the subject of much controversy last autumn after it was slated for felling by Buckinghamshire Council following an “accidental” fire which increased its “risk to public safety”.
In October, the local authority backpedalled on the plans, however, after a new survey found that the London Plane tree only had “limited degradation” and just required the removal of deadwood, rather than felling or any major reductions.
Marlow Town Council has now confirmed that Pound Lane will be closed between 8:30am and 4pm on Monday, February 12, while deadwood removal works take place alongside an inspection of the tree's crown.

Speaking last year, Stephen Broadbent, Cabinet Member for Transport at Buckinghamshire Council said the small-scale works will require the isolation of the overhead electricity supply in Pound Lane.
He added: “We know the decision to save this much-loved tree will be welcomed by the whole community.”
