A LOVING mother-of-two battling stage 4 cancer has seen thousands of pounds raised towards her treatment already.
In November 2023, Katie Biglan, 49, underwent surgery to remove vulva cancer and lymph nodes from both groins to try to prevent further spreading.
Devastatingly, cancer cells were detected in the removed lymph nodes and a recent scan has shown that the cancer has now spread to her lungs.
Recognised in Marlow for not only being a loving wife and admirable mum, but also for her enduring positive energy, open heart and loyal friendships, to hear about Katie's situation has touched many throughout the community.
Joanna Matson explained on a GoFundMe page: "Quite simply - to know Katie is to love her.
"She's a vibrant, fun-loving soul, with an incredible energy that people always gravitate towards.
"She is open, kind, loyal, generous and this is reflected in the huge amount of friends she has, that she has connected together over the years. She's also a loving wife and an amazing mother of two young beautiful girls.
"As her friends, so many of our most memorable experiences have been because of Katie, and many of us can honestly say that she has changed our lives for the better - we now want to give back."
Katie is currently trying to explore all possible avenues in her fight, including alternative treatments not funded by the NHS.
Conventional treatments such as chemotherapy began on Monday, January 15.
This exploration has led her to potentially beneficial treatments such as high-dose Vitamin C, IV Mistletoe Therapy, Hyperbaric Oxygen therapy, Cannabis Oil, Acupuncture and homoeopathy alongside support from an integrative practitioner/nutritionist to help with diet and supplements.
Given the unavailability of funding for these alternative treatments, a GoFundMe page has been launched on her behalf by a group of her admirably committed friends.
So far the page has managed to £19,831 out of its £25,000 target.
The page says: "So many people have already asked how they can help Katie - well this is it. Your donation, no matter how big or small, makes a difference.
"It's not just financial support; it's a message to Katie that she's not alone and that we all want to help her in her journey towards healing.
"Please make sure you share with your networks as widely as possible and help make a difference to Katie and her family’s lives today.
"As a thank you for your donation we promise to keep you updated on Katie’s journey and how your contributions are helping."
As well as this, a charity Rave and Ride event is taking place at The Marlow Club on Saturday, February 3, to raise money for Katie's treatment.
Steven Smith, Indoor Cycling Co-Ordinator, said: "Rave And Ride put this event together in 48 hours, unlike the months it normally takes, with 7 DJs, and three instructors, teaching and playing live.
"Pre-event the club has already raised over £5,000. We desperately need money for treatment, which the NHS will not provide."
