Members of Harewood Downs Artisan Golf Club in Amersham met recently to celebrate the 90th birthday of long-standing member, Alf Osborne.
Alf spent his working life as a milkman in the Berkhamstead area, where he was joined by fellow artisans for a nine-hole Stableford competition in cold and unwelcoming weather earlier this month.
A handmade trophy depicting the logo of Express Dairy’s, Alf previous employer, was presented to the competition winner Rod Stratford after dinner with a respectful 20 points.
It was joked that whilst Alf is well used to a high level of walking required to play golf and says it’s a great way to stay fit, he admitted that playing 18 holes ‘could be a bit tiresome’.
In the photo from right to left are Alf Osborne 90, Brian Brown, who is the oldest member as he turns 98 this summer, and Rod Stratford 80.
Despite having a total age of nearly 300, the three friends play golf regularly.
