Buckinghamshire Council has provided an update on plans for a new Aldi store.
The popular discount supermarket has formally submitted plans to build a new store with parking at the former Jaguar dealership on 44 London Road West in Amersham.
Aldi submitted plans for the new store on London Road West in March 2021.
Since then, the plans have attracted 1,675 letters in support from neighbours and residents and 17 letters objecting.
Chesham Bois resident David Edwards asked when the decision was going to be made.
He said the locals are “crying out for a competitive supermarket” in the Amersham area.
Another resident Anthony Howe wrote in his letter of support: "This has gone on long enough and heads need bashing together to come to a sensible decision."
However, the Environment Agency continues to object to the proposed development due to concern over River Misbourne.
In a letter dated December 29, 2023, the government agency said they were not confident with the river condition assessment because they had not been given the raw data used in a field survey of the river.
Buckinghamshire Council’s cabinet member for planning and environment Peter Strachan said: “Some additional information is required before this application can progress further. Subject to this being received, it is hoped that the application will be referred to committee in the early half of this year.”
Aldi revealed in September the opening date was scheduled for June 6, 2024, after customers contacted the supermarket on social media.
A spokesperson for Aldi said they had no further updates at the moment.
