A cafe in Buckinghamshire has created a bespoke smoothie to celebrate its inclusion in a local playing cards pack - with a percentage of the profits going towards a deteriorating activity centre that has been badly impacted by flooding.
The Mixing Jug, an independent coffee and juice bar based at 6 Liston Court in Marlow, has created a new smoothie named the Nine of Hearts as a nod to its inclusion in a playing cards pack that recognises a range of businesses, landmarks and organisations in the town.
Greg Gabriel, owner of The Mixing Jug, which opened in 2022, is planning to donate 25p from each smoothie sale to Longridge Activity Centre on Quarry Wood Road, the operators of which are actively fundraising for extensive replacement works following deterioration.
Recent flooding across Marlow has further damaged the existing structures, with two buildings at Longridge now in need of demolition, and Emma Sweet, the founder of Marlow Playing Cards, has also pledged 25p from each sale towards the fundraiser.
Greg said the new smoothie, which is made up of strawberries, bananas, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries and oat milk, "promotes both health and community through its contribution to the inspiring local mission at Longridge", while Emma described it as "a celebration of community, creativity and compassion".

She added: "I felt it was important that the Marlow playing cards had a donation to a local charity for every pack sold and I was delighted when Greg took to the idea of creating a smoothie in honour of the cards as well.
"By working together, we are raising more money for Longridge, and Marlow residents have the added benefit of a new healthy smoothie to enjoy."
Amanda Foister, CEO of Longridge Activity Centre, said: “Marlow Playing Cards are a beautiful way of promoting our lovely town and we are very proud to be the 2024 charity.
"We hope this will not only help us reach our funding target but will also encourage new members of our wonderful community to use our unique facilities.”
