The wife of an 88-year-old man who was left in need of constant care after a serious hit-and-run said she is 'angry and exhausted' by the fallout from the incident.
John Palmer, 88, was walking from his home in Stokenchurch, High Wycombe, to the nearby Shell petrol station on Oxford Road on January 10, 2021, to buy a newspaper when he was hit by a vehicle while crossing the road.
The driver of the vehicle was not identified and John was left with serious injuries and in need of surgery and long-term care.
Nearly three years on, his 90-year-old wife Jennifer said she was "angry" both at the carelessness of the motorist and the lack of support she feels her husband is receiving in his care home facility, which the couple compromised on due to financial constraints.
Before the fateful incident, Jennifer said her husband was a happy man who enjoyed walking the dogs and tending to his allotment. Now he remains in a serious condition and is receiving statutory treatment that his wife doesn't believe affords him sufficient comfort or quality of life.
The 90-year-old, who still lives independently herself, is also "exhausted" from driving the 15-mile distance between the couple's High Wycombe home and John's care facility, with closer residences too far out of their price range.
She is working with Slater Gordon solicitors on a civil claim that could provide additional funding for John's rehabilitation and care costs and has issued a plea for anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
