Plans for a block of flats in a Buckinghamshire village have been given conditional permission despite parking concerns.

The proposals are for a house and outbuildings in Denham to be demolished and replaced with six flats.

The application for the property, Firdene, Oxford Road, was called into Buckinghamshire Council’s South Area Planning Committee by Denham Parish Council and a local councillor.

Councillors gave the application conditional permission.

During the meeting, councillors complained about not having access to all the available information and criticised Buckinghamshire’s parking policy.

Cllr Santokh Chhokar said: “I am getting more and more worried as this discussion is continuing.”

He added: “I think our council is in a bit of a mess as far as parking policy is concerned… I am pretty shocked to understand that the whole of Buckinghamshire just has one parking policy.”

Inadequate parking was one of the main issues raised, with fears that residents in the new apartments would take up ‘already-scarce spaces’ in front of neighbouring properties.

Denham Parish Council claimed this “could lead to highway safety issues arising from poor visibility accessing and egressing the site onto the A40 Oxford Road”.

Despite the concerns, council planning officer Ben Robinson told councillors that the Buckinghamshire highways officer had not provided evidence to show that “harm” would be caused to highway safety by the new flats.

He said this meant that councillors may therefore not have sufficient reason to reject the application.
