Volunteers at Chinnor and Princes Risborough Railway did a "double take" when Santa arrived unannounced to check that arrangements for his visits were underway.
Whilst on the premises he discovered an old enamel sign for The Bucks Free Press advertising a price of only two pence to speak to Father Christmas.
Santa declared: “So it’s very old – but not as old as me!”
Santa inspected Platform 4 at Princes Risborough station, where all his steam-hauled Santa Specials will leave from.
He then took a train to Chinnor, where from Saturday, November 25 onwards will be his festive North Pole Grotto station.
You can join Santa's steam trains at Princes Risborough on Saturdays and Sundays November 25-26, and December 02-03, 09-10, 16-17, and 21-23.
Trains will leave at 10.30, 12.30, and 14.30 on each date and Santa will meet every child in his Grotto with a Christmas present.
Hot drinks and mince pies will be served on arrival and Chinnor station café will also be offering some extras, such as mulled wine, for a small charge.
Visitors can travel by Chiltern Railways services to Princes Risborough from Aylesbury, High Wycombe, and intermediate stations.
There is also car parking at Princes Risborough station provided by Chiltern Railways.
