Pinewood Studios held its annual remembrance service on Friday (November 10), paying tribute to past and current military personnel.
The studios which is home to many Hollywood blockbusters, welcomed guests including esteemed Lord David Puttnam, along with delegates from the Army Film and Photographic Unit (AFPU), Royal British Legion of Iver, RAF, Imperial War Museum, Buckinghamshire and Iver Parish Councils.
The deeply moving service was directed by Father Andrew Montgomerie of the Iver Parish Church, and featured heartfelt readings and a solemn two-minute silence, outlined by Last Post and Reveille, performed by Geoff Lawrence.
In 1946, Pinewood Studios hosted a humble dinner to mark the cessation of the AFPU and RAF's presence during the war and April 21, 1956, saw the inauguration of a plaque remembering the members of both units who sacrificed their lives during World War II.
Delegates paid tribute to the photographers, drivers, flying crews, and airmen who risked and often lost their lives to document Commonwealth operations, imagery that remains invaluable today.
Pinewood's Community Engagement Manager, Dan Burton, kick-started the service.
Their Corporate Affairs Director Andrew M. Smith OBE, Lord-Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire’s Deputy Lieutenant, The Countess Howe, and Air Cdre Sansome read touching tributes.
Lord David Puttnam and Nigel Smales from the AFPU Association made further contributions, with closing words from Paul Clark, one of the AFPU's last members who trained at Pinewood.
Longtime AFPU supporter, 109-year-old George Sibley, an SAS veteran, was also in attendance.
