The rules for e-scooters on trains in Buckinghamshire have changed.
Chiltern Railways has changed its rules for electronic scooters on board its service and at train stations.
The changes, which came in force on June 12, mean e-scooters and their charging is not permitted on Chiltern Railways trains or its train stations.
They were banned because of the fire safety concerns associated with lithium-ion batteries.
Chiltern Railways said: “Most UK train operators have chosen to ban e-scooters in response to concerns regarding the fire risk posed by lithium battery powered personal mobility transport devices and fire incidents on board trains. Severe overheating associated with faulty or unregulated lithium batteries increases the risk of the batteries catching fire and expelling toxic fumes.”
What is allowed on board the trains?
Passengers can still take their non-electric scooters, mobility scooters or aids and electric bikes on board.
However, charging of electric bikes on board the trains or at the stations is not permitted.
Although some scooters may be CE/UKCA approved, the train operator is unable to check every scooter, meaning they’ve put a blanket ban on all e-scooters for safety.
E-scooters cannot be stored on Chiltern Railways premises nor will they be accepted as lost property at a Chiltern Railway station.
