A NURSE is calling for the 'dangerous A41 road' to be reviewed after she treated a crash victim then was almost killed near the same spot days later.

Grainne Wokes from Oxfordshire was driving on the A41 in Aylesbury one January evening when she was met by a car on the wrong side of the road coming straight towards her.

She suffered devastating injuries after the head-on collision, resulting in broken bones, cuts and bruises.

The crash has left the nurse with reduced mobility and impacted her ability to work.

Multiple hospital visits followed, alongside numerous physiotherapy appointments and MRI scans.

Bucks Free Press:

She said: "I don’t remember much after the initial impact. In hospital I was informed I had a range of broken bones, cuts and bruises.

"I’ve had multiple physio appointments, MRI’s and have been left with reduced mobility all of which could have been prevented.

"There were no issues around drugs or alcohol. The other driver was simply not paying attention and was on the wrong side of the road.

"Not only was my personal life affected but my work as a nurse has been impacted upon.

"There are many normal day to day things that I used to take for granted that I struggle with now. A few points and a fine was the only outcome for the other driver."

Grainne believes other drivers are aware of the dangers of the A41 road.

Bucks Free Press: Kimberley Cameron, 27, was killed on Friday evening on the A41 in Aylesbury, when she was hit by a police vehicle that was heading to the scene of a crash in nearby Waddesdon.Kimberley Cameron, 27, was killed on Friday evening on the A41 in Aylesbury, when she was hit by a police vehicle that was heading to the scene of a crash in nearby Waddesdon.

Just three months after the crash which nearly killed Grainne, jogger Kimberley Cameron died after being hit by a police car on a pedestrian crossing on the same stretch of road.

In July of the same year, 18-year-old Jorell Pascal died on the A41 in Hertfordshire after his Seat Ibiza collided with a van.

Grainne said: "Other travellers on the A41 will be all too aware of the dangers that face them every day.

"Families are left devastated as a result of the countless numbers of deaths and injuries on the A41. Individuals have to endure pain daily as a result of accident-related life long injuries.

"I had assisted at an accident site in almost the same location only days earlier."

"If a dramatic change is not introduced then the number of fatalities and injuries will increase.

"A central island throughout the A41 to prevent overtaking, a major cause of accidents, is required. Speed cameras are required along the A41. Tougher penalties for drivers are required. Careless driving that results in serious injury should be treated as dangerous driving.

"Better signage with junction information is required. Reduced speed limits in the more built up areas are required.

"Action is needed now to ensure that these tragedies come to an end. "
