A High Wycombe laundrette owner will once again offer free services to the rough sleepers and homeless in the area as the winter months come in.

Qumar Aziz, who has been the title holder of the Laundry Room since 2013, told the Free Press that ‘it shouldn’t be right that those sleeping on the streets don’t have clean clothes.’

He has also encouraged the public to no throw away surplus pieces of clothing or sleeping bags, as he will use them to help those who have fallen on hard times.

Mr Aziz began his initiative to help the homeless in Wycombe in February 2017 and has continued ever since.

Additionally, the Laundry Room, which is on Desborough Road, works with the Wycombe Homeless Connection by offering the service to those who need it people.

The scheme works through homeless people receiving tokens from the Wycombe Homeless Connection, which will then get taken to the Laundry Room for a free wash.

The owner told the Free Press: “The reason we have done this is because there are many rough sleepers in the town who need clean clothing.

“It shouldn’t be right that those sleeping on the streets don’t have clean clothes, so we want to make sure that they feel refreshed with what they are sleeping in and on.

“When I saw the number of rough sleepers we have in Wycombe back in 2017, I thought something should be needed to be done as it wasn’t right.

“Since then, we’ve had over 1,000 people using our service and it’s been great to see.

“Of course, we don’t want to have as many people being homeless but if we can help, we will.

“And it’s not just in High Wycombe, as we also try and help those in Aylesbury and Chesham too.

“I’ve lived here all my life and it’s important to get involved in the community and help others.

“Also, I just wanted to thank the BFP for all the support you’ve given us over the last few years, as people need to know that they can have their clothes washed for free during their tough days.”
