A memorial garden has won the top prize in a competition for the most stunning display.
The Memorial Gardens in Amersham Old Town were awarded the gold prize in this year’s Thames and Chilterns in Bloom.
The awards are one of 16 regional and national campaigns forming the Britain in Bloom held by the Royal Horticultural Society.
Amersham Town Council said scoring 28 out of 30 was the “best result to date” for the Memorial Gardens.
The top score was “an amazing achievement” made possible by the Amersham in Bloom team of staff, volunteers and support from the community.
Town clerk Steve Catanach said: "To receive another gold award for the Memorial Gardens is wonderful accolade and a testament to the unwavering efforts of the Amersham in Bloom team. On behalf of the Council, I would like to thank the staff and volunteers- both bloomers and the leaders of the 1st Chesham Bois Scout Group - for their continued commitment, ensuring that the gardens remain such a beautiful community space that we can all enjoy. The nerve-wrecking judging took place in July when a panel from Thames and Chilterns in Bloom came to assess the gardens.
The judges said the garden is "simply stunning with beautiful, colourful and immaculately maintained displays throughout."
"The many different planted areas, from the sensory and peace gardens to rose gardens are complemented by the features retained from the World War 1 centenary displays, all working well together in what is a relatively small space," they said.
"It is unsurprising that this is the busiest space in Amersham, and it was lovely to see so many people passing through and enjoying the displays. The Garden really is a credit to the volunteers and Amersham Town Council – well done to everyone involved."
New additions to the Memorial Gardens this year included new herbaceous perennials around the permanent side borders to add more colour and mix of pollinator plants cosmos and salvia farinacea.
Last year, Amersham won the biggest gardening competition in the country, Britain in Bloom.
Because of the win last year, Amersham did not enter this year’s Britain in Bloom.
