It has been revealed what a 54-year-old man who recently escaped a Gloucestershire prison with Buckinghamshire links was sentenced for.
Gary Hopes, who absconded HMP Leyhill in the West Country on Wednesday, October 11 and remains at large, was jailed in the autumn of 2014 after he admitted to stabbing a then 27-year-old woman in the neck.
The incident took place at the end of August that year which left the victim with ‘a number of significant injuries’.

The length of his sentence has not been disclosed.
Nine years later, Hopes has managed to flee his incarceration, and it is believed he may have boarded a bus from outside the prison.
He is around 5ft 8in tall and was last seen wearing black tracksuit trousers, white trainers with red-orange toe caps and a high-vis jacket.
In a brief statement, Avon & Somerset Police said: “Anyone who knows where he is urged to call 999 with reference number 5223248450.”
