A Bucks mayor is taking part in her first ever 10k run to raise money for a foodbank.

The mayor of Amersham Elizabeth Shepherd is raising money for the Chiltern Foodbank.

She was spurred to launch the fundraiser because “these are very difficult times for a lot of people and food is a basic necessity.”

“It’s important to try to reassure there’s no stigma, there’s no need to feel uncomfortable. I can understand anyone having to say ‘I cannot feed myself or my family’ is difficult, but the foodbank is a really constructive first step people can make,” she said.

As part of the fundraiser, the 68-year-old has started training for the 10k Shardeloes run on September 24.

She started with a ‘couch to 5k’ on the NHS app before deciding to tackle the “challenging” Shardeloes run in the heart of Amersham.

"I'm keeping the fundraiser link open all year to raise for the foodbank," she added.
