A man from Bucks proposed to a woman he met after bonding over their opinions on the serving size of a Wetherspoon dish.
Toby Shrive, an IT project engineer who lives in Aylesbury, recently proposed to Heidi Smedley, a Durham native whom he met after the two bonded over the ‘paltry’ amount of chips served at their local Wetherspoon pub.
Toby responded to a post that Heidi made on the Facebook group ‘Wetherspoons Paltry Chip Count’ two years ago lamenting the size of the portions offered by the popular restaurant chain.
He posted an update on the same group yesterday (September 8), announcing that the couple were now engaged and expressed his gratitude for the relationship’s unconventional beginning.

Toby wrote: “Today I proposed to Heidi, who I originally met through a post on this very group almost two years ago. She said yes!
“After two years of getting to know each other and forming a very special bond, we’re now looking to move onto the next stage of our lives together.
“Who would have known that a simple reply to a comment on this page would lead to this… we even had to regale a jeweller with our story today.
“Our love of Wetherspoon’s chips brought us together, so I’ll always be thankful for this group.”
