Pony and trap racers have been accused of causing traffic delays on public roads yesterday morning.

At around 8am on Wednesday, September 6 along the A413 between Wendover and Stoke Mandeville, three carts reportedly being driven by teenagers were seen taking up the road.

Onlookers said this caused significant traffic heading into Aylesbury on what was, for many, the first day of the 2023/24 school run after the six-week summer holiday.

One eyewitness said: “It’s something that we’ve seen but not at that time of the day.

“It was by the big garden centre in Stoke Mandeville near Wendover and I saw three kids in three separate carts whipping ponies along the main road.

“They couldn’t have been older than 15, maybe not even that.

“The traffic that was being caused was horrendous, especially as it was the first day back to school for loads of kids in the area.

“It was crazy.”

This isn’t the first time that pony and trap racers have been spotted driving on the roads of Buckinghamshire this year.

In March, the police thwarted several racers in the south of Bucks, whilst other sightings have occurred in Princes Risborough, Aylesbury, Little Kimble, Gerrards Cross and Chalfont St Peter since May.

One incident in June saw a horse collapse to the ground and get physically dragged in front of several shocked drivers in Gerrards Cross.

The A413 has been described by residents in Bucks as a 'prime spot' for racers.
